An ingenious allegory of art and nationalist politics\, its sharp and political edge that remains relevant today. The libretto is based on the French novel La princesse aux clowns by Jean-José Frappa. \nThis Spanish operetta / zarzuela first premiered in Spain in 1942.  This Cervantes Theatre production directed by Paula Paz marks its UK premiere. \nDos payasos en el exilio procedentes de un país inmerso en una guerra civil se hallan en el corazón de los bajos fondos parisinos en tiempos de revolución. \nBlack\, el Payaso es uno de los trabajos más ambiciosos y de más amplio alcance de Pablo Sorozábal. This year is the 125th anniversary of Sorozabal’s birth. He was born in San Sebastián\, in a working-class family. \nSorozábal’s liberal sympathies left him somewhat isolated after the Spanish Civil War\, and many of his later zarzuelas were first seen outside the capital or in less prestigious Madrid theatres. \nSorozábal’s theatrical vitality\, musical wit and dramatic force are second to none in the history of zarzuela. \n¿Quién es Sorozábal? \nPablo Sorozábal (18 de septiembre de 1897 – 26 de diciembre de 1988) fue un compositor español de zarzuelas\, óperas y obras sinfónicas. Este año se cumplen 125 años del nacimiento de Sorozabal.
